I have wanted to figure out how to make one of these for my daughters room for about a year now. This particular one - costs $599.00 at Pottery Barn. I went to Loews here and they don't sell chalk board, peg board, and things like that. I was figuring I would find those things there, and could have them cut to the size I need. All of the fabric squares are just peg board, covered in fabric. C'mon Shannon, Beckie, Michele, and whoever else wants to answer this call. I am obviously not going to spend 600 dollars. Any suggestions?

I don't know if you have craft warehouse there or not, but they have a system similar to the potterybarn thing you are talking about.
No, we don't have that store. Just Michaels and JoAnns. Do you think they have something similar?
Kim~ I found a couple of the square pieces on ebay for sale. I typed in Pottery Barn peg/cork boards. Is it sold by each square?

Hey Kim, it's Erica (Shannon's SIL), I know you can buy the chalkboard paint (in a spray can), it works pretty good, we used it on a table top MANY years ago and it still works! That may solve one square or so!!! Have fun, that is a really cute idea. Also, is it IKEA that sells the cork board in a pack, or maybe the office stores...it's been a while since I bought mine..they are 12" square! Good luck!

Hey Kim, that is so cute. I may steal that idea someday. The way I would start out is cutting a thin piece of wood (so it doesn't weight that much) like 1/4" or 1/8" plywood the size of the entire surface. Then cut out 16 equal size squares of maybe 1/4" or 1/2" plywood. Then cover some in fabric, spray paint some with magnet paint, some with chalkboard paint (FYI you can do both on one square to make them both magnetized and chalk), and then cover some in cork (you can buy cork by the rolls at Lowes or Home Depot). The tough part will probably be the pegboard. You could make your own or find some at a home improvement store and then mount them with a space in between (they sell spacers). I hope this makes sense. If you didn't want to do pegboard you could still use a strong glue and glue cup holders and hooks to it. GO for it. If you do PLEASE post pictures. If I lived near you we could make a day out of it. Have fun.
