What changes are YOU making?

With the economy at an all time low, I find myself brainstorming ways that I can cut our monthly expenses. Everytime I turn on the TV, I see another professional giving their tips. But sometimes, they just seem to far "out there" somehow. So I was just wondering what practical advise my blogger friends had to offer. Shannon make sure to tell Beckie to read this blog and comment. I have a feeling she might have an idea or two!

Kimmy,
Let's see for starters take a look at your phone bill. I have switched to Vonage and have a fixed monthly rate. Next do you really need a cell phone? If so can you cut to a lower minute plan. Also, you can live without a cell (Joan and I have recently done this and it gets easier to not have one every day). Next reduce the number of times that you have garbage picked up and do a better job of recycling ( make this one of the kids chores and if you have more than one child rotate the responsibility each week. They each learn to recycle and hopefully not too many arguements). Cut down on unnecessary trips to stores: make lists and make one trip. Cut out Cable or Dish type TV or at the very least cut your package down. Who needs all of those channels. Well that's my 2 cents worth Love Dad

DON'T FORGET KIM, DAD DOESN'T HAVE A JOB AT THIS MOMENT SO EVEN THOUGH ALL OF THESE ARE GREAT WAYS TO CUT DOWN EXPENSES IT WAS A NECESSITY FOR US. PLANNING IS MY BEST PIECE OF ADVISE, AND SAME WITH THE GIRLS, IF THEY WANT SOMETHING PUT THEM ON A PLAN TO EARN IT. NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT FOR US ALL TO LEARN. GOOD TOPIC LOOKING FORWARD TO OTHER COMMENTS. LUV, MOM

I love your dad's comments and then your mom steps in knowing that your girls would go nuts if they couldn't reach you when you come over without them :-) and don't tell them where you are going ;-) We are cutting down our phone service. Don't need call waiting, ect. Hardly use it as is but when there was a crisis my cell was horrible. Need the cell...babies and car issues...can't take the chance. I plan my trips like your dad said. I also think planning is great. I actually took Matt's advice on bill paying and it has worked so far...don't tell him that. We can't change the garbage thing...it is standard, but I get on Matt for leaving on too many lights when we aren't in the room, ect...like I am about to do right now...night night.

we are thinking of cutting out our home phone. it is cheaper to have cell phones than our home phone - which we never use except for all those fun sales calls we get!!

sorry, but beckie is gone on a cruise. I do know that she got rid of her cell phone.

Dad had a lot of good suggestions. Another would be to bring your own snacks to games and stuff so that you don't spend money at the snack bar during all those diff sporting events ya'll go to. Are you carpooling as much as possible for all those practices?

I've definitely cut down how much I run around town from here to there. Not only does it cut down on gas...it cuts down on how much I spend at those stores.

Kim~ I didnt plan on posting anything because our family pretty much is doing the same as everyone else---but Ive noticed a lot of cell phone comments and wanted to say the Trac phones are great--you buy your minutes on a card and and know exactly what your paying and what youve got for useage.

ps. Im also trying to use more coupons--

JUST HAD THE PUD----PGE COME OUT AND GIVE US SOME IDEAS ON HOW WE COULD CUT BACK. FOUND OUT THE TWO BIG EXPENSES ARE HOT WATER HEATER AND A FRIDGE 10 YEARS OR OLDER. WE PURCHASED A HOT WATER HEATER 3 MONTHS AGO AND DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE ALREADY SAVING BECAUSE WE ARE ON THE BUDGET PLAN SO IT IS THE SAME EVERY MONTH AND AT THE END OF THE YEAR YOU EITHER OWE OR THEY OWE YOU, ANYWAY ,HE CHECKED OUT OUR WATTAGE AND IT WAS A REAL BIG DIFFERENCE. JUST ANOTHER LITTLE PIECE THAT MAY HELP SOMEONE. JOAN
